I’m Rich Biatch

by Nick Johnson

We’ll keep it quick today. I’m working on some more really cool videos for you guys today as well as some really top notch high quality content as well. I’ve got a lot going on this week and I plan on bringing you guys along for the ride.

Most of you know, I’m pretty much ‘Anti-IM’ and if you don’t know what IM is, trust me, just don’t worry about it. We’ll have plenty of heated debates of which I will win all of them as time goes on. For now, I don’t have time for such petty things as IM’ers.

There are a few things I don’t mind. If you’ve got a product like I do with my Subject2 Investing E-book I don’t think it’s a super big deal that you mention it every once in a while like I do in a non-spammy way. Do you think what I just did is spammy?

I don’t mind if you’re an affiliate for products or services you use or actually believe in its value. You may notice the AskSunday ad to the right and I’m not currently using them as I’ll be comparing them to B2kcorp.com here shortly. Although I’m not currently using them, I’m really just filling in space on the site and I truly intend on using them or B2kcorp.com and see the true value in having VA’s.

There a few other little things I don’t seem to mind like when you link to an affiliate account and you put(affiliate link) afterwards, I think that’s classy and truthfully, if I’m going to be purchasing a product or service, I’d like to know if any of my friends are an affiliate, figure they might as well get paid right? I especially believe in great products or services that allow recurring commissions meaning if you sign up for a monthly service and the affiliate earns a cut each and every month, I’m cool with that.

Lets not get off track here. We’ll be discussing this mucho more amigo don’t you worry yourself over that. There will be a time I’ll let you voice your opinion before I crush it ;)

I would like to let you know that now I’m officially RICH!! I received my first Paypal deposit from DIY Themes Thesis affiliate program(affiliate link) which is pretty cool I guess. I’m not going to stay up all night thinking of all the ways I can spend :

but it will help temporarily support my booze and hooker habit…..

See, I actually use Thesis on this site and think it totally rocks! way better than the crap I paid for via ‘the old Subject2.com site’ put together by some banana chasing monkey. A few friends of mine said they were considering Thesis and I told them if there were to please use my affiliate link, again, if they’re going to pay someone, I might as well get a cut or one of my friends get a cut.

So there you have it. I made $136.95 which is pretty cool simply because I actually enjoy their product, will happily promote their product even if I don’t get a commission and we all live happily ever after.

Enough of this chatter, I’ve got better things to do.

Tell me the single biggest one time check or deposit you made from ‘affiliate’ work. I’m just curious and I’ll get to why I’m curious in a few days or maybe a week or so but nevertheless, I’m curious.

But Wait!!! There’s MORE!!!

Lets do a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.com or iTunes

Why? I dunno why, just because. Lets do a drawing. If you leave a comment or ReTweet this post, I’ll put your name in a drawing and Feb 8th we’ll draw for the winner. It doesn’t matter if you’ve made any money at affiliate marketing, I just feel like giving away money for no reason ;)

So, leave a comment and let me know the biggest one time payment for affiliate marketing was for you and for those of you that haven’t made any money in affiliate marketing(it’s cool with me, I’d rather spend my time on better things too) you still get a chance by just leaving a great comment or ReTweeting this post. I’ll draw on the 8th and paypal it or buy a card and mail it to you if you don’t have paypal

Laters! btw, if you haven’t check out our latest amazing guest post by Maren Kate you should!! Titled: Hustle or Die!

The most I got was a big whopping check for $38 ;) Oh well. I'm still working on it! Thanks for the fun giveaway and keep up the good work on DIY Themes, it gives me hope!
  • Thanks Amberlicious! cool name btw. What product/service did you earn that $38 with?
  • amberlicious
Uh, Babeland.com, lol. It's a sex toy affiliate program! :)
  • oooohhhhh..........freaks gettin it on and they aint leaving till 6 in the mornin LOL!! good for you.
  • amberlicious
hahaha, you know, I actually really should sign up for more affiliate programs, I know I've helped stores sell products because I give out promo codes and then they're used on certain stores that I have on my blog, I really need to sign up for affiliate programs at my site that way my next check is bigger, you know, maybe $50...lol.
  • affiliate marketing is certainly a touchy subject for me personally. I really believe in only marketing solid and valuable products/services.

I also am not concerned with what little money affiliate marketing would bring me without a ridiculous amount of time and energy put forth to put into it. I'm personally more concerned with building outside revenue. While I wouldn't mind making an extra $1,000 in affiliate sales, my energy is more valuable elsewhere for the time being.

Well I used to have a website and that Google AdWords on it and my biggest check was around 165.00 before shutting down the website. It was totally unexpected but nice. But in a way the ads that showing up on the site is not controllable so sometimes you would have a competitor show up on your website..haha
  • strugglinginvestor
You can control which ads show up on your website to a point. Adsense allows you to "block" domains.
  • I can completely control it by not letting my precious site real estate get cluttered with crap! Can you imagine the spammy 'Make Millions from Internet Marketing' ads that would be getting seen right now if I cluttered this space with adsense? not worth it to me for the small amount of money it 'may' produce.
  • strugglinginvestor
Your honest opinion, do you think the adsense on my site gets in the way? I tried to place it in the flow of my design.
  • strugglinginvestor
That's a good question Nick, I'll have to give that some thought and do some testing. So far I've only made about $150 from adsense in the last 6 months. The big square banner in the upper right does by FAR the best. I may replace the other banner ads with something else to see what happens.

Want to buy some ad space?? :)
  • nope, thanks for offering :)
  • you're not too bad. I think I would rather use that space for more meaningful advertisements. Maybe for products or services that you actually use or believe in that will pay out at a higher price and have a better conversion. Has it been financially beneficial for you to use up that space with adsense? Have you made enough to be happy with the price at which you're really selling that space on your site? If not, I would consider changing it quickly.
  • well good for you Curtis in making $165.
  • strugglinginvestor
I've made a few bucks off of affiliate marketing. Pretty much just enough to pay for my monthly hosting fees and some other stuff. Sometimes I get lucky and sell a Steve Cook product (which I have and love) and it'll pay for my Probate Leads for the month. That has happened twice.

My biggest paycheck was $230. Only happened once and have not come close to that ever before or since.
  • Well aren't you a little affiliate rockstar :) Good for you Scott! Where do you see the best path to wealth? Affiliate Marketing or Real Estate?
  • strugglinginvestor
Most definitely Real Estate, but getting a passive income from affiliate marketing is a nice small bonus. Affiliate marketing can be a full time job, but not the way I do it. All I do is put up a link in my "How I learned" section to a product I've used and recommend and if someone clicks on the affiliate link and buys the product. I take the same tact as you Nick. I don't push it, I just support the product by providing a link.

For me Real Estate is where the money is, everything else is just a bonus on my way to getting there.
  • markyuschak
After reading the comments I feel that I'm in somewhat good company. I've never made a penny from affiliate marketing.

Kudos to you for doing so!
  • well hopefully you haven't put too much time and effort into it then Mark. I'd personally rather deal with real estate anyways.
  • Wow! You definitely know how to right to get the audience's attention!! I have always been pretty much against affiliate marketing because the amount of time I spend promoting their products, I could have spent promoting my own. However, over the years, I have relaxed that a bit to assist in promoting products that I believe are good for new business owners and won't get them ripped off. Interested to see where you go with this convo!
  • Thanks Laura, I was hoping to raise a few eyebrows ;) I agree promoting your own stuff is probably much more lucrative but I don't mind promoting others as long as their product is solid
  • petergiardini
    Nick... you rock!

Now if could only figure out how to make all of this stuff work together I would be in fine shape.

    Pete
  • Peter, stick with what you're doing. I'm pretty sure it will pay off much better for you in the short and long term.

    Nick,

I am very interested in learning more about all of this. Actually, when I was in the 10th grade I heard about affiliate marketing and got pumped!! I started a website then (almost ten years ago) called Colescorner.com. The site doesn't exist anymore. But I made .04 cents!! Oh, I never got the check though because I had to make $20 for them to cut me a check. So I have no checks, ha.
  • Thanks Cole, thats one thing about affiliate marketing I don't like. Typically you have to meet a certain threshold to get paid. On certain recurring programs it's not so bad. If I were going to passively promote an affiliate program, I would choose the recurring one over the single payment easily.
  • Chris Minchin
I need to step my game up on my networking (hence, i'm posting as a guest because I don't have any of the accounts that I can even log in) / affiliate marketing. I know that i'm losing a lot of money because of it. I have a lot to learn and I plan to stay tuned right here to learn as much as possible.

Thanks for the awesome post Nick!
  • Chris, please don't get too excited, I'm certainly not going to get into the cliche 'How to Make Money' with Affiliate Marketing. I'm more interested in making real money. I certainly don't mind earning a few bucks from affiliate stuff along the way but I also won't be putting much if at any effort into it.
  • Maria
I just started using clickbank and made $49.00. Yea!

BTW: I just bought your book. I haven't received your download link yet and I can't wait to read it.
  • I'll get right on that Maria, thank you for your purchase. Btw, thanks for commenting! I hope you stick around and participate more. I love the interaction.
  • I want the hookers and booze!!! Keep the Gift Certificate!!! Oh yeah, I have a few affiliate links no cash yet.
  • at least I know I'm not the only with problems :)
  • No affiliate links for me yet either.

Part of that whopping $136.95 you made there came from my purchase of the thesis theme. And BTW, thesis does rock. It is so customizable and easy to use. If you have any tech background you can really make the theme shine.

Thanks for the great advice to purchase the thesis theme.
  • You're quite welcome Chris. I'm glad you like it as much as I do. Too bad for me I'm the furthest from being 'techy' but at least you can see I'm giving back a portion of the proceeds ;)

Funny story I just got asked yesterday to become an affiliate for a product I despise because of who they are targeting. So I am not an affiliate of anyone or anything for now...
